John Louis Sims, 87, of Hoover, AL, entered into eternal life February 22, 2020. The only child of Louis and Mary Lee Sims, John was born May 10, 1932 in Birmingham, AL. He attended Graymont Elementary, Phillips High School, and completed two years at Birmingham-Southern College before proudly serving four years in the US Air Force. Upon his return, he completed his studies at Birmingham-Southern College, graduating in 1956 with a BA in Business Administration. John enjoyed a 40-year career with Protective Life Insurance Co. He spent his retirement years fulfilling his lifelong dream of traveling, completing sixteen trips to Europe, Russia, China, South America, Africa, and Alaska. John loved classical music and was a season ticket holder with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. John generously supported Birmingham-Southern College, where he was a member of the Endowment Builders Society, the Ginkgo Society, and the Fine Arts Society. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood where he served on the administrative board and sang in the Men’s Chorus for many years. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Yeilding Chapel on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College located at 900 Arkadelphia Rd. Birmingham, AL. 35254 with Dr. Andy Wolfe officiating. Memorials can be made to Birmingham-Southern College or Trinity United Methodist Church.
