He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce (Grey) Marlin, of 58 years; daughter, Kim Marlin of Blountsville; daughter, Cindy (Scott) Tew of Mooresville, NC; and son, Greg (Danette) Marlin of Trussville along with eight grandchildren: Cameron (Hannah) Marlin, Justin Marlin, Dylan (Austin) Tilles, Simon Wilding, Katherine (Logan) Mosley, Meagan Marlin, Kaili Marlin, Isaac Tew and three great-grandchildren, John David Marlin, Noah Marlin and Alice Tilles. He is also survived by sister Judy York, brothers Rick (Roberta) Marlin and Tommy Marlin and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Alvis Marlin, Jr and Jerry Marlin, and sisters Janice Ray and Betty Huey.
John “Jackie” was born on October 15, 1936 in Jefferson County to Alvis and Katherine Marlin. He was a graduate of Minor High School. Following his honorable discharge from the US Navy as a radarman, he was briefly employed by the Social Security Administration. After more than 35 years at ACIPCO, he retired and said goodbye to many lifelong friends in the mold shop. During retirement, Jackie devoted even more time to family, church, friends, his garden, and home construction projects. He was a member of Cullman First Baptist Church.
Elmwood Funeral Home will host a visitation from 9:00AM followed by a funeral service at 10:00AM, Friday, August 27, 2021, at Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave, SW, Birmingham, AL. A military honors committal will be held at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo at 11:45AM. Due to COVID-19, guests are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
