John C. Johnson, born July 11, 1962, died surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 9, 2013. He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Johnson. He is survived by his father, George D. Johnson and his brothers Bo and Alex Johnson. Aunts Ree (Ken) Spore, Libby (Adron) Wolfe and Jerri Boobyer. Uncles Eddie (Barbara) Johnson, Leon Johnson and Bill McKenzie. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends. John was born in Panama City, Florida and moved to Alabama at a young age. He grew up in Margaret, Alabama and attended Springville High School, class of 1981. He went on to attend and receive a degree at the University of Montevallo in 1986, where he was the Entertainment Editor of the school newspaper, The Alabamian. While at Montevallo, he forged many life long friendships. John also loved participating in the school's homecoming event, College Night, and he was a proud member of the Gold Side. John worked. A lot. He was President of JSS, Inc., and worked at several local restaurants: TGIFridays, The Village Tavern and Applebees. John was a collector of many things, most notably Barbra Streisand memorabilia. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, loved being a member of the Magic City Choral Society Choir, and gave unbiased advice to all of his friends. A memorial service will be held at Johns-Ridout's Funeral Parlor, 2116 University Blvd, Birmingham, Saturday, May 18th. Friends and family can mingle starting at 10 am and the service will follow at 10:30 am.
