John Houston James Jr. “Johnny” age 70 of Centerpoint, Al was called home to be with our Loving Lord on Monday May 5, 2014. After a lifetime of selflessness always honoring and caring for his loving parents, serving the church in many ways and supporting JDRF in finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Johnny graduated from Ensley High School class of “61” and attended College at Montevallo from where he applied his talents at managing Western Super Market, Mutual Savings Life Insurance, McDonald’s, Burger King and Quality Trophy from where he retired early to stay home and commit his life in taking great care of his parents.
Johnny was also awarded and appointed “Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Aide-de-Camp” in The Alabama State Militia by Governor Wallace on November 2, 1967.
Johnny was a member of Ensley First United Methodist Church and later became a member and served Huffman United Methodist Church in many various positions, including choir of which he loved to sing. He was a talented musician and poet and believed in “Giving Flowers To The Living” which was his metaphor for helping anyone in need or giving compliments, notes and poems to those that he felt needed or deserved them. He was a wonderful man with so much love to give. He was one amazing, loving and spiritual believer of Christ in many ways more than one. Johnny was preceded in death by his loving parents, John Houston James Sr. and Pauline Estelle James.
He was survived by his God Sister Shae “Crickett” Farmer., several cousins Carolyn B. Hall, Cheryl Jo Colburn, Norma Hopper, Jackie Nell Cato, Ronald Cato, Donald Cato, and June Saleeby, James E. Marsh, Clifford Cato also his half-sisters Gaila Everett and Brenda Toriac, alongside many nieces and nephews. Johnny was also survived by his Best friend of 62 years Arthur Weaver, church family and friends.
Funeral service will be Friday May 9, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Huffman United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday at the Church from 11:00 AM until service time.
