John David Baird of Birmingham, Alabama passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday October 21, 2018, at the age of 71. John David was born on September 19, 1947, in Jasper, Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He married Amy Charles Baird in May of 1970. John David was an Atlanta Police officer for two years before returning to Birmingham to create the family business, Baird Contracting Co., with his father, John Baird. He enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, skiing, flying, horseback riding, hunting, Alabama football, and most of all, spending time with his family.
John David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bill (Kilgore) Baird.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Amy Charles Baird; daughters, Jane (Kellon) Pope, Kathryne (Jason) Martin, Brooke (Lt. Col. Brooks Glass) Baird and Jaime (Jackie) Laird; grandchildren, John Kellon Pope, Warren, Bryson and Evelyn Martin, Sloane, Carmen and Wynter Laird.
Family will receive friends Thursday Oct. 25, 2018 from 1:00 -2:00 PM at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. Memorial service will follow at 2:00. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
