Jerry Gatz Odle

Jerry Gatz Odle, born August 14, 1927 in McPherson, Kansas passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011. Jerry is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert (Bob) Odle also of McPherson Kansas; sons Steve (Karen) Odle; Dr. Sam (Malinda) Odle of Manhattan, Kansas; Dr. John (Cheryl) Odle of Jasper, Alabama; grandchildren Tyler (Lindsey) Odle of Birmingham; Erin Odle of Houston, Texas; Charles and Katherine Odle of Jasper, Alabama, and Dallas and Skylar Odle of Manhattan, Kansas.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother as family was central to her life. Many a day were centered around sharing, laughing and enjoying her family. Bob and Jerry were transferred to Birmingham Alabama in 1975 at which time Jerry immediately made numerous friends through her love of music, bridge and dance. One of her most cherished organizations was PEO of which she had been a member for over 40 years as well as a past Alabama State President of PEO.

She also had been a long time member of the Trinity Sunday School Class at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church.

Jerry graduated with honors from Kansas State University in 1949 with a major in Piano and Organ. She also was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and a distinguished member of Mortar Board Honor Society. She taught piano lessons until her retirement in 1993.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church Music Fund 2061 Kentucky Avenue Vestavia Hills AL 35216 or to the Arthritis Foundation 2700 Highway 280 East Suite 180 Mountain Brook AL 35223.

Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service.
