Jerry Black, 75, of Birmingham, AL died January 6, 2018. He was born July 30, 1942 in Walker County, AL and lived many years in Panama City Beach, FL before returning to Birmingham. Jerry was an avid sports enthusiast and Florida State University’s biggest fan. He enjoyed going to the Gardendale Civic Center gym to work out and socialize with his buddies daily. He took great pleasure in the many trips with his children, from riding the rapids on the Nantahala River in North Carolina to cruising around the streets of New York City on the big red tour bus to taking road trips to Florida and throwing coins at those never ending toll booths. He attended Huffman Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brady and Evelyn Black, sister Pat Calma, brother Gene Black, and granddaughter Jessica Black. Those left to cherish Jerry's memory include his wife of 30 years, Jan “Honey” Black; two daughters, Tammy Black of Birmingham, AL and Tina Tatum (Mark) of New York, NY; one son, Jerry Black (Jaime) of Indialantic, FL; stepson, Rick Hall; 3 grandchildren, Angela Black of Atlanta, GA, Whitney Smith (Justin) of Birmingham, AL, and Tiffany Durham of Pensacola, FL; 4 great grandchildren, Jaid McLaughlin, Xander McLaughlin, Bailey Smith and Colt Smith. Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, January 10 at 10:30 am at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with Rev. Larry Smith officiating. The family will begin receiving friends and family at 10:00 am.
