Jane was born in 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama to parents Ruth Durant and Robert Clyde“ RC” Robertson. She received a bachelor’s degree from Texas Women’s University and a master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Alabama. She retired from the University of Alabama and Stephen F. Austin State University. During her 39 years of teaching Dr. Robertson taught students ranging from pre-school to college. She received many professional awards and recognitions.
In 1992 she had the honor of being included in “Nine Who Made a Difference at” SFA. She received the Johnny “Lam” Jones spirit of Special Olympics Award in 1993 and in 2006 she was presented with the “Director of Athletics Award of Distinction” at Stephen F. Austin State University. Her professional career was of supreme importance to her, but even more important to “Aunt Jane”, as she was fondly known, was her family. She is survived by three nieces, Patricia Jennings (Lynn), Aimie Robinson (Mike), Cynthia Robertson and a nephew, Rob Robertson (Becky), ten great-nieces and nephews, and 22 great-great nieces and nephews. Her unconditional love and devotion to her family is a legacy that will live on forever. She was the core of the Robertson family and never failed to be there for any of them. She loved traveling. She loved teaching. She loved her family.
In addition to her nieces and nephews, Jane is survived by her very best friend Dr. Dorothy Allen. They both were an active part of the SFA Alumni Association and could be found attending and boisterously cheering on the team at just about every sporting event that involved SFA. They also traveled extensively with the teams and friends to all parts of the country. Jane lived life to the fullest and shared that enthusiasm with everyone.
She will be dearly missed by all. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert Clyde Robertson, Jr.
A special thank you is given to Jane’s caregivers Tamra, Tammy and Rhonda. Their care for Jane was above par and is much appreciated. The nurses and doctors at Nacogdoches Medical Center provided attentive and loving care for Jane in her final days and was much valued.
