Jane McNutt Hodges was born May 6, 1926, to parents Ida and Clyde McNutt of Irondale, Alabama. She went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2021. She was the youngest of four daughters and affectionally labeled by her father as “Cuppie”. She was his little “cup of love.”
As a child, Jane walked with her family to attend Irondale United Methodist Church every Sunday and continued her membership there. She was the only female employee of the Alabama Department of Public Safety/ Driver License Division for over 30 years. She met her trooper husband at work and they were married on May 12, 1950.
“Cuppie” delighted in her job, her home, her sister, and their children throughout the years. She often bemoaned the fact that many loved ones left her behind and at age 95, she was ready to be reunited!
The survivors celebrate her joyful life, her subtle wit, her infectious giggle, her talent for fashion, and the endless stories she shared.
Cuppie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents; her sisters, Alice, Marjorie, Frances and their husbands; her niece, Mary Gilley, and nephews, Eddie Gregg and Terry Smith.
Those of us who talked with her often marveled at her sharp sense of humor and her awareness of worldwide news and certainly the weather. When there was a report of a forthcoming storm, she would quote “Red Sky at Night, Sailor's Delight. Red Sky in the Morning, Sailors Take Warning’
A graveside service for Jane will be held Friday, December 17, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. Masks are recommended.
God Speed, Aunt Cuppie.
