James Thomas Newton, Sr. of Trussville, Alabama passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at the age of 90. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. Mr. Newton served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corp where he retired as an E8 Master Sergeant with over 20 years of duty during both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He retired from General Electric Medical Systems with over 20 years in the X-Ray industry. He also was a longtime member and Deacon of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Trussville. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney D. Newton; parents, Geneva and Oscar Newton; brothers, Ray Newton and Vernon Newton. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Clara Roper Newton; son, James “Jimmy” T. Newton, Jr.; his daughter, Sharon Berry; a sister, Mary Lou Lovell (Frank); daughter-in-law, Shela Newton; his Grandchildren, James T. “Jamie” Newton III, Dave Berry, Jeremy Newton, Christopher Newton, Chanina Berry, Kevin Newton, Brittni Farris, and Logan Newton; Great Grandchildren, Cambryn, Jasmine, Keelan, Tommy, Haley, Hudson, Landon, and Brindley.
Because of the Covid-19 Pandemic there will be a Family Only graveside service held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Sulphurs Springs Baptist Cemetery in Trussville.
