Dr. James L. Newsome of Birmingham, AL passed away on July 12, 2018 at the age of 62. He is survived by his mother, Sarah G. Newsome of Marietta, GA, and two sisters, Janet Williams of Richmond, VA and Robin Suitts of Denver, CO. Jim was born in Marietta, GA and graduated from North Cobb HS, Armstrong State Univ., and Medical College of GA. After further study at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Jim practiced pathology in Birmingham, AL until he retired due to multiple sclerosis. Jim was an active volunteer as a dive coach for people with paraplegia, with Camp Smile-A-Mile for pediatric cancer patients, with Alabama Orchid Society and Birmingham Botanical Society. He will be remembered as a gracious, generous man who was a life-long learner. Jim suggested that any memorial donations by given to Camp Smile-A-Mile or the Birmingham Botanical Society.
