Jimmie was born on October 27, 1930, in Birmingport, Alabama to parents Reffie and Rodgers Holmes. Jimmie grew up in Birmingport and graduated from Oak Grove High School, where he was a star athlete. Jimmie’s life’s work was dedicated to being a loving father of four daughters and building a remarkable and adoring family over multiple generations. Jimmie was a devoted husband to Nonie for 68 years and the undeniable patriarch of the Holmes family. Jimmie worked for 44 years with US Steel Corporation and was one of the finest salesmen to ever sell a piece of steel. Sales were made because of Jimmie’s uncanny ability to seal a deal.
Jimmie was a longtime steward of Bethlehem Methodist Church and a faithful member for decades - a shining example to family and friends. He was an avid Alabama fan and spent every fall Saturday in command of the tailgate and cheering on the Crimson Tide. Jimmie also enjoyed the annual Holmes family beach trip, a tradition that started in 1954 and remains to this day.
