James Sherbert Hodges Sr.

James Sherbert Hodges, Sr. 85 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday August 15, 2020. He was born in Birmingham Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife of fourty-three years Margaret H. Hodges; father and mother; Ira and Estelle Hodges; brother and sisters, Edgar Hodges, Beatrice Hallmark, Stella Lunkenheimer and Raymond Hodges. He is survived by son, James S. Hodges,Jr.(Sheila) of Gadsden, AL, Susie Luthy (Brian), Angela H. Downey (Stephen) of Oxford, AL, Steve Kirkpatrick (Renea) Chouteau, OK, and Debbie K. Bain (Jim) of Alexander City, AL; grandchildren Tiffany Trejo, Brittany Stegall (George), Kemberly Varner (Scott), James L. Bain, III, Katie Roesch(Christopher), Michael Kirkpatrick(Jessica), Hallie Bain, Tripp Downey, and Havnana Downey, Brina Gardner (Toby), and Beau Luthy (Alyse); eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Hodges was born in Birmingham and later moved to Oxford, AL. He was a very hardworking devoted husband and father. He loved gardening and loved the Lord and his family. Mr. Hodges was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oxford, Alabama He lived in a wonderful neighborhood where everyone was like family to him. His family would like to send a special thank you to them all for checking on him and helping any way they could.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from 10-11 AM at Elmwood Chapel Funeral home. A celebration of Mr. Hodges' life will follow at 11 AM graveside at Elmwood Cemetery.
