Ignatius Joseph Piazza, age 74, of Hoover, Alabama passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Piazza and Lena J. Piazza of Fairfield. He is survived by his brothers Anthony J. Piazza and Joseph A. Piazza (Linda), nieces Crispin B. Piazza (Micah Hamilton) and Cristina N. Piazza Burkes (Brett) and nephew Matthew J. Piazza. He also is survived by great nephews Jude Bonura Hamilton, Percy Joseph Hamilton, Ellis Howard Hamilton; great niece Riley Nicole Burkes, many cousins, and close friends, Paula Tribble Piazza, Norman Virciglio, Willie Hawkins, Frank D'mica, III and Ronald Hamilton. “Nat” as he was fond of being called, was baptized at St. Joseph’s Church and attended St. Anthony’s Elementary School in Ensley. He was a graduate of John Carroll High School, where he played on the football team, and later went to Massey Business College. He served in the Alabama Army National Guard as a Green Beret from 1966 to 1972 and was an Honor Guard for Lurleen Wallace’s funeral in Montgomery, Alabama. His work was his life and he put his all into being a faithful and hardworking employee of Birmingham Tobacco Company (BTC) for 33 years in the position sales and distribution of wholesale foods. Nat was member of the Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham. Our family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to the doctors and nurses of UAB Hospital. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM with Rosary at 9:45 AM and Mass at 10:00 on Thursday December 9, 2021 at St. Paul’s. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
