Howard Dale Strevel passed away on March 1, 2024, he was 85 years old. Dale was born on April 28, 1938 to Howard E. and Betty Annette Strevel. He graduated from Ensley High School in 1956; and married the love of his life, Nancy Giles in August of 1957. Dale served in the US Army and then went to work at US Steel where he retired.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Howard E. Strevel and Betty Annette Strevel; and his son Michael Shane Strevel. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 66 years, Nancy Giles Strevel; children, David Shawn Strevel (Sonia) of Daphne, Alabama, Howard Samuel Strevel of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, David Blake Strevel (Ashley) of Victoria, Texas, Laura Strevel Blankenship (Cameron) of Monroe, Louisiana, Brittany Strevel Robinson (Justin) of Daphne, Alabama, Brooklyn Welton Strevel, of Daphne, Alabama; 4 great grandchildren, Asher Strevel, Caleb Strevel, Freddie Blankenship, and Tate Blankenship.
Dale was affectionately known as Pop by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will always be loved and missed by them all. But his memory and legacy will live on through them and in their memories and stories that they will share of their Pop. To many others he was known as Coach Strevel. In his lifetime he not only coached many of the communities youth at the Central Park Youth League and Minor Christian High School, with both the baseball and football teams, but he went a step further in being their mentor. He was a true inspiration and touched the lives of many people.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1pm until 2pm at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 2pm in the chapel.
