Howard Durwood Freeman, 97, entered into the Lord's presence on Saturday, July 27, 2019. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed by all of his family and friends. He served in the Navy in WWII and was awarded battle stars for campaigns at Guadalcanal, Saipan, Bouganville and Palau on warships USS Chandeleur and USS Duncan. Durwood spent 13 years of his working career at Loveman's department store followed by 20 years at Pizitz department store as Assistant Credit Manager. After retirement, he worked as a volunteer at St. Vincent's hospital for 8 years. He especially enjoyed the last 17 years with Pat Patrick's "Best in High School Football" radio show. He is preceded in death by his brothers, James Freeman and Norman R. Freeman. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years JoAnn Franks Freeman; daughter, Elizabeth Woods (John); 2 grandchildren, Mark Woods (Nikki) and Heather Durham (Brad); 4 great grandchildren, Olivia Durham, Ella Woods, Luke Durham and Andrew Woods and special nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. The family would like to express our thankfulness to his caregiver, Gladys Moore. Lastly, we want to thank and praise our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who proceeded us in death that we may come to know God personally and have eternal life. The family will receive friends from 10:00 -11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Bluff Park United Methodist Church with a Celebration of Life Service following at 11:00 A.M. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
