Hilda Grace Strickland Turner went to heaven to be with the Lord on December 23, 2021, having passed peacefully while surrounded by friends at her daughter, Sherry’s home where she had convalesced these past seven months. At age 90 herself, she joins her husband of 70 years, BJ Turner and two of their daughters, Melanie Sue Turner and Lillian Arlene Adams. She leaves behind her beloved and devoted dog, Brutus; two daughters, Diana Lynn Stokes (Billy) and Marie Sherrell (Sherry) Voketz (Dan); 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a nephew and two brother’s in-law, all who will greatly miss her.
Hilda was a strong, determined woman who loved her plants and flowers, animals, trees and all of nature; and she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, painting, and Bible study most among her many hobbies. She was a devoted wife, and held family very dear, hosting big Sunday dinners as well as many a Christmas chaos. She and BJ were cornerstone members of Bellview Baptist Church, where they only missed going if it were absolutely impossible for them to be there. And she very much loved her Lord, Who she is with this very day.
The family will receive friends for visitation, at the very church she loved so much, on January 3, 2022 at 10 am at Bellview Baptist Church on Eastern Valley Road in McCalla, Alabama. Services will follow at 11 am, with graveside afterward at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to make donations to the Baptist World Mission a (www.baptistworldmission.org/giving-to-baptist-world-mission) and/or the Wounded Warrior Project (https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org) in recognition of another of Hilda’s lasting legacies. She kept a long list of causes and organizations that she believed to be worthy, and to which she was sure to contribute every year; but these two held a special place on that list.
