Harvey graduated from the Resource Learning Center (RLC) campus of Shades Valley High School in 1978, and then graduated magna cum laude at Birmingham-Southern College in 1982. There he met his future wife Renée Brown; they both graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and eventually opened a private medical practice together in North Shelby County, Alabama, Double Oak Family Medicine.
As a physician, Harvey was dearly loved by all of his patients; he had a gentle presence, listened patiently, and cared deeply about their lives. Not only did Harvey and Renée share responsibilities at the office, but they also shared equal responsibilities at home raising their two daughters, Elena and Christina. Harvey was a devoted father, dog lover, NPR listener, National Parks frequenter, and avid runner. He ran 15 marathons in his life, including the Boston Marathon, achieving his personal best at age 50. He was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and was loved by his church family at First United Methodist Church. Harvey’s kind spirit, quiet intelligence, and calm demeanor will not be forgotten.
Left to honor Harvey and remember his love and legacy are: his wife, Renée Brown Harmon; his daughters, Elena Harmon (Brett Wisse), and Christina Harmon; his brother, Dennis Harmon (Jane); his in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of patients and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lois Bowden Harmon and William Elbert Harmon.
A memorial service will be held for Harvey on Saturday, November 17th, 2018 at First United Methodist Church Birmingham. Service at 11:00 a.m. with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama.
