Gladys Louise May Patterson, age 86, of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, passed away January 2, 2014. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, between 11AM and 12 PM at Elmwood Chapel. Family graveside services will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Alabama, to be officiated by Rev. Bobby Scales. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Lewis May and Bessie Belle McNamee May of Hagerstown, Maryland; her husband of 59 years, Robert Alan Patterson; and son, Curtis Lee Patterson of Homewood, Alabama. Gladys was born June 24, 1927, in Hagerstown, Maryland. She was a long time member of Central Park United Methodist Church and an associate of Sears for 35 years. She is survived by 4 daughters: Nancy Casey (Don) of Pleasant Grove, AL, Linda Kilpatrick (Rob) of Arab, AL, Cynthia Patterson of Leeds, AL, and Patricia Ray (Mike) of Warrior, AL; 2 sons, Robert Alan Patterson II (Jean) of Daphne, AL and Charles Patterson (Pam) of Leeds, AL; 1 brother, Robert Lewis May of Hagerstown, MD; 10 grandchildren, Gayle Kilpatrick Rice, Terri Kilpatrick Milks, Jason Patterson, Brandon Patterson, Kim Casey Copeland, Amanda Patterson Roddam, Scott Patterson, Holleigh Patterson Taylor, Marissa Ray Dulz and Mallory Ray; and 9 great grandchildren, Conner Copeland, Kelsey Copeland, Harper Rice, Jackson Milks, Gage Milks, Lindsay Roddam, Meghan Roddam, Jacob Patterson and Blakely Patterson.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity.
