George Young, age 92 passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a quartermaster on the battleship USS New Mexico. He owned a local magic shop in downtown Birmingham called the “Fun Shop.” He was very active in the Magicians society. While owning the “Fun Shop,” he worked his way through law school at the University of Alabama. George was a prominent lawyer in Birmingham for 25 years and was a former Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama. He was a Member of the Birmingham and Alabama Bar Associations and the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association. He also served as Special Assistant Attorney General for the Alabama State Highway Department for the acquisition of right-of-way for the Interstate Highway System. He was a former Municipal Judge for the city of Fultondale, Alabama. He volunteered as a Tour Guide at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida and served 5000 hours. George resided in Orange Beach, Alabama from 1988 to 2005 and later returned to Birmingham to be closer to his family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years Frankie Heaton Young. He is survived by his son, Robert Dandrew Young (Melita); daughter, Katrina Young Tudisco (Butch); seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Graveside service and burial will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to be made to the American Cancer Society. In his memory, He loved Alabama Football and would give you a “Roll Tide” anytime!!!!
