He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Henry Cox and Merle Waid Cox. He is survived by his lovely wife of fifty-five years, Mrs. Eileen Robino Cox. They were married on July 29, 1967 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Ensley, AL. He is also survived by his two loving daughters, Vicky Cox Davis (Freddy) of McCalla, AL., and Mary Ann Cox Burkhalter (Paul) of McCalla, AL., and grandsons, Alex Davis and Luke Burkhalter.
After completing high school, Gary obtained two Associate of Applied Science Degrees. The first one was at Lawson State Community College for Automotive Manufacturing Technology and the other was from Jefferson State Community College in Management and Supervision Technology. Upon completing his college education, he worked for the following companies: Connor's Steel in Birmingham, AL., as a Draftsman and Detailer, Rust Engineers in Birmingham, AL. and Baton Rouge Offices as a Senior Designer, Hoff and Associates in Homewood AL., as a Senior Designer, US Pipe in Birmingham AL., as a Senior Designer and Contractor and KBR in Birmingham, AL., where is retired as a Design Supervisor.
Gary enjoyed riding motorcycles with his buddies. He loved being with his wife, daughters, son-in-laws and grandsons who were his greatest treasures. Gary loved the Lord and attended Open Door Church and found comfort in the Lord's word.
A public visitation will be held at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, AL 35211 from 1:00pm-2:00pm with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family request that everyone meet them back at the funeral home after the committal service for a fellowship reception.
