Faye Braswell Walker of Hoover passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017, following a recent illness. She was a native of Marion County, the only daughter of the late Joseph Luther Braswell and Mertie Bell Earnest, and she is survived by her three brothers, James Bryce Braswell of Weston, FL, Luther Joseph Braswell of Hoover, and Earnest Lee Braswell (Shirley) of Forestdale. Faye Walker was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and a greatly beloved “Maw” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great-great grandson. She was predeceased by Thomas Greene Walker, Sr., her Winfield High School sweetheart and husband of almost 62 years. She is survived by their two children, daughter Brenda Marie Walker Cash (Gilbert) of Concord, AL, and son Thomas G. Walker, Jr. (Betty) of Montevallo. She is also survived by grandchildren: Dr. B. J. Cash (Amy) of Vernon, Melinda Cash and Justin Cash of Hueytown, Matt Walker of Montevallo, Jane Walker Herndon (Josh) of Huntsville, and Dr. Jeff Walker of Birmingham; and by seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was a dedicated Friend of the American Village and its Colonial Chapel. She received the Flora Mae Pike Community Service Award from the Hoover Service Club where she was a member several years. She was also a devoted member of the Bush Hills Music Club, the Camellia Garden Club, Hoover Historical Society, Friends of Hoover Library, Arlington Historical Association, Birmingham Chapter of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, and many other patriotic, service and charitable organizations. She constantly invited prospective members to club meetings and was always credited as being a highly effective membership recruiter for numerous good causes She had a deeply caring spirit and even in her illness, she would seek out other patients who needed an encouraging word or smile. The family publicly expresses great thanksgiving to God for her love, life and example. And we offer thanks to God for the sure hope through our Christian faith which assures us in John 3:16: “God so loved the world, that He gave his only-begotten Son, to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 21, from 10:00 a.m. until11:00 a.m. at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. The funeral service will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will then follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Village in Montevallo, or to a church or charity of choice.
