Ernest Jack (Rusty) Wright passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the age of 60. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Elliot Wright and survived by his wife Saundra (Sandy) Welch Wright; his mother, Delene Douglas Wright, and sister, Karen Delene Wright, both of West Columbia, South Carolina as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and loving in laws.
Rusty received a Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina in Journalism in 1974 and a Juris Doctor from the Birmingham School of Law in 2007. Following many years of a sales career, Rusty practiced law in Birmingham with a specialty in divorce and child custody. For many years, Rusty was the President of the Birmingham USC Alumni Association. He was also an active alumnus of the Birmingham School of Law serving on the faculty as well as a participant and then coordinator of the Mock Trial Team. Rusty was also one of the founding directors of the Birmingham School of Law Foundation and an active member of the Alabama Bar Association.
Rusty was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL serving as a teacher in the Adult and Children Education programs and core team member in the early years of the Contemporary Worship Service.
A Memorial Service will be held at Canterbury United Methodist Church, Overbrook Road, Birmingham, AL on Friday, June 22 at 12:30 pm. Visitation will be in the Church Parlor at Canterbury United Methodist Church beginning at 10:30 am and briefly following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Birmingham School of Law Foundation, 205 Twentieth Street N-Ste 823, Birmingham, AL 35203; the Methodist Home Corporation-Fair Haven, 1424 Montclair Road, Birmingham AL 35210; or Canterbury United Methodist Church, 350 Overbrook Road, Birmingham, AL 35213.
