Elwell O Thomas

Elwell O. Thomas passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 11, 2016, surrounded by his family. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1941 and was a partner in Thomas and Fowler Poultry. He served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War in the Pacific on the USS Detroit. Mr. Thomas was a Recorder for Zamora Shrine Temple, and a member of Elks Lodge #79, Masonic Lodge #633, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Birmingham 33*. He was a member of East Lake United Methodist Church.

Elwell was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Mary Ellen Thomas. He is survived by his daughters Connie Roberson (Jim), Carol Franks (Phillip); grandchildren Brooke Buxton (James), Blake Roberson (Karen), Chris Franks (Burgin), and Page Franks; 6 great-grandchildren and sister Nila McHale.

Services will be Monday, May 16, 2016, at East Lake United Methodist Church. Visitation from 12-1:00. Service at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Lake United Methodist Church or Zamora Shrine Temple.
