Elizabeth (Liz) Slive, 77, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 29th. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Liz attended Cornell University and the Bank Street College of Education before meeting and marrying her beloved husband, Michael L. Slive, former Commissioner of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
With her great zest for life and her unmatched talent for friendship, Liz established new and abiding ties wherever she went. She actively cultivated a sense of community in the many cities she called home – including Hanover, New Hampshire, Walnut Creek, California, Ithaca, New York, Chicago, Illinois and finally Birmingham.
Blessed with a sharp eye and quick mind, she was an invaluable partner to her husband and a fiercely loving mother and grandmother. Liz was predeceased by her husband, Michael L. Slive, mother, Rose Rapoport, and brother, Jonathan Rapoport. She leaves behind her daughter, Anna Slive Harwood, son-in-law Judd Harwood, granddaughter, Abigail Slive Harwood and brother Alan Rapoport.
To honor Liz’s memory, her family will hold a celebration of her life on Monday, January 2nd, at 11:00 AM at Temple Emanu-El in Birmingham, Alabama. Donations can be made in Liz’ memory to the Mike Slive Foundation for Prostate Cancer Research.
