HAMILTON, EDITH LOUISE On Jan 21,2012 Edith Louise Hamilton, born January 20, 1916, stepped up to heaven. She was preceded by her husband, Walter Don Hamilton; her parents Silas Frank and Idella Spears Daily; and six siblings, Lois Courington, Hettie Belle Hinton, Roy Daily, Ezzelle Bennett, Gladys Gordon, and Ellis Daily. She is survived by her loving children; Bettye Donette Bower (Bruce) and Richard Denny Hamilton (Lynda). She was dearly loved by her granddaughters; Donna Marie Houston (Jeff), Ginger Suzanne Brown; and her four great-grandchildren; Amy M. Byrd (William), Emily M. Houston, Abigail S. Brown, and Garrett A. Brown. She goes ahead of her precious sister; Dorothene King, Townley, AL, and brother Loyd Daily (Rose), Yakima, WA; and many nephews and nieces. We all shared in her love, kindness, and strength. Edith spent her life stepping up to challenges. She was born in Manchester, Al. She helped on her parents farm and attended Saragoosa School. Later she graduated from Walker County High School during the depths of the Great Depression. Her good grades and work ethic allowed her to enter a new nursing program at People's Hospital and Walker College. She earned her R.N. degree and graduated in the first graduating class of Walker College. During World War II, she stepped up to serve her country as a nurse in the DuPont Powder Plant in Childersburg, Al. She learned to drive by driving between the two plants that she served. Later she served as a Red Cross nurse. She worked as an R.N. for 53 years. She served as chairman of the Private Nurses Association, 1976. Suffering from Sjorgens Syndrome, she helped organize and served as the first president of Moisture Seekers of Alabama. She was a ten-year volunteer for The Sheppard's Center. She stepped up as a parent by making sure her children were at school, Sunday School, Girl and Boy Scouts, sports, etc. We knew her love was with us. She stepped up in a fun by loving to travel, dance, sing, and laugh. She made the world a brighter place. She stepped up to Jesus to serve, sing, and dance with praise. She was a long-time member of the former 85th Street Baptist Church now the Deerfoot Baptist in Trussville. Visitation will be Monday, Jan 23, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm at Ridouts Trussville Chapel and graveside service will be Tuesday, Jan 24th at Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper, AL >>
