Earlene Mann Mohon

On March 9, 2023, Joy Earlene Mann Mohon, beloved mother and wife, went peacefully home to meet her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her faithful husband of 61 years, Troy. Earlene was born on September 22, 1939 in Jackson, Tennessee to German Earl Mann and Frances Graves Mann. While growing up, she lived four years in Charleston, SC, but spent the majority of her early life in Columbus, MS. At sixteen, she enrolled at Mississippi State College for Women (now MUW), earning a BS in Education. After graduation she began her teaching career in Natchez, MS; and also subsequently earned a Masters in Counseling from Mississippi College. She married Troy in April 1961, and they lived in Fort Worth, TX until moving to Fort Polk, LA after Troy being activated for military duty during the Berlin crisis. After Troy’s active military service, they lived in Tyler, TX; Longview, TX; Jackson, MS; and Florence, MS before moving in 1973 to their long-term home in Mountain Brook, AL.

Earlene loved working with children, serving for over 30 years as a beloved teacher and counselor, primarily for elementary and kindergarten. She was recognized in The National Distinguished Services Registry for Counseling and Development, Marquis Who’s Who American Women and Who’s Who in America. She also served many years as a Sunday school teacher for young children and Junior High girls. Earlene’s intelligence, patience, and lovingkindness remain unmatched as she truly loved her students and relentlessly encouraged and motivated them to strive for excellence in both academics and personal character. Teaching for her was a true calling, and she positively impacted many children during her 30-plus years in education.

She is survived by her two sons and their wives: David (Kristin) and Chad (Judy); and four grandchildren: Kyle, Andrew, William, and Caroline. Earlene exemplified selfless, unconditional, boundless love as she poured herself into raising her boys, ever-present as the team mom, room mother, nurse, tutor, and cheerleader in the stands. She also loved her two daughters-in-law as the “daughters she never had,” and her grandchildren were a constant source of delight for her. She always loved children and was at her happiest when with them.

Earlene’s hobbies were gardening, painting, and reading. She will be sorely missed by her family, but we know she now resides with her Heavenly Father in a glorious home filled with joy and contentment. One of her favorite verses was Phil 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me,” and she truly leaned on her Lord as she accomplished a life well lived. She was truly a good and faithful servant to both her God and her family.

Funeral Service will be held on March 24th at 10 am at Mountain Brook Baptist Church Chapel, with visitation immediately prior at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, Earlene requested any remembrances be donated to St. Jude Hospital for Children.
