After several years of illness, Dorothy Simpson McElroy (age 88) completed her Journey to Heaven on Saturday evening, September 15, 2012. She passed away at her home in Oneonta surrounded by her family. Shortly before her passing, she saw her husband, Jack, and her mother, Kathleen, waiting alongside her bed and called out to them that she was "coming".
She was a member since Cradle Roll of Brewster Road Baptist Church in Huffman, Alabama, formerly Tenth Avenue Baptist Church of Birmingham. She served faithfully as Nursery Director for numerous years and was known for her famous Tuna Casserole at Church Fellowships. Jack and Dot's home was a place of hospitality to everyone who knew them. Guests were always welcomed with a meal and glass of sweet tea. Youth looked forward to their famous Chili on Sunday nights after church. She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, wonderful cook, and fiercely loyal to her family. She drew great comfort, in times of joy and struggle, knowing that she was held securely in the Palm of the Lord's Hand.
For now, she has left behind her three daughters and their husbands, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends to remember precious memories of good times, fellowship, and her joyous laughter.
Graveside service will be Tuesday September 18, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in Forest Hill Cemetery, with Ridout's Trussville Chapel directing.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Mission Effort at Brewster Road Baptist Church.
