Donald Lamar Stubbs was called home on June 20, 2022, after a brief illness. For over 77 years he touched the lives of all who knew and loved him. Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama on February 3, 1945. He was the third child of Charles Eugene and Mary Blanche White Stubbs. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Business. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
After college he worked for the L&N Railroad for 17 years, The Collegiate Licensing Company, and the Florida Department of Revenue. He was accomplished in many skills and enjoyed being with people especially his nieces, nephews, and their children. "Uncle D," as he is affectionately known to his family and eventually to all, would go out of his way to lend a hand, whether it was to change a tire, mow the grass, a painting project or caring for the many pets in his life. Throughout his life, Uncle D listened to the histories of the Stubbs-White family and became a trusted re-teller and source of family lore to the younger generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eugenia Battle. He is survived by his brother Ronald D. Stubbs (Martha) and nieces and nephews - Pat Battle (Alice Ann), Mike Battle, Chuck Stubbs (Joy), Mary Grace Stubbs, Shannon Battle and grand-nieces and grand-nephews - Will Battle (Danielle), Mary Raines Battle, Mary Catherine Battle Trumbower (Taylor), Annie Battle, Charlie Stubbs, Mary Harlen Stubbs, Denver Pingley, and Mary Scott Pingley and great-grand-niece Allie Battle. He had a special bond with each of them.
