Dewey O. Yeager went to be with the Lord January 27, 2016. Dewey died peacefully of natural causes at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Dewey was born September 19, 1924 in West Blocton, Alabama to Olyis D. Yeager and Annie Mosley. He grew up in Marvel, Dogwood, and Pea Ridge communities outside of Montevallo. Dewey attended Montevallo High School.
Dewey served during World War Two (WWII) in the U S Naval Construction Forces (NCF), Seabees, in the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO). He served in construction projects in Saipan, Guam, and Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal; the American Area Ribbon; and the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, Dewey was employed by Acousti Engineering of Birmingham. In 1957 he became a founding partner of the Birmingham branch of Bonitz Insulation which later became All-South Insulation. Dewey was a senior executive with All-South Insulation until retirement in 1984. He remained active in the Birmingham construction industry until 1999.
He was member of Crestway Baptist Church for 60 years, where he served many times on the finance, welcome, maintenance, visitation and security committees.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; wife Kathleen (Kitty) Martin Yeager; daughter Dale Yeager Hines; and sister Doris Yeager Hill. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Langston Yeager; granddaughter Tracy Hines; son-in-law Charles Hines; and cousin Don Yeager.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Crestway Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM from Crestway Baptist Church located at 6400 Crestwood Boulevard, Birmingham.
