Denise Crow Andrews, of Mountain Brook, AL, passed away on August 29, 2018 at home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born January 17, 1948 and was raised in Mountain Brook, AL, the second of four sisters. She graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1965 and attended the University of Alabama and Samford University, graduating in Elementary Education. Denise married Walter Andrews, her high school sweetheart, and together they raised three sons. Her family and friends were her greatest joy and bringing people together for shared celebrations was a gift she gave to all who loved her.
Denise approached life with enthusiasm, and found deep satisfaction in serving her community, family and church. She was a long time member of Mountain Brook Baptist, where she loved teaching and attending Sunday School. She worked to support youth sports programs in Mountain Brook and participated in the Service Guild. She was always eager to try new things and loved noticing and sharing beauty with those around her. She had the support of a loving family and many friends during her brave battle with lung cancer for over nine years.
She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Walter; beloved sons Bo, Bill (Suzanne), and Charlie; and four grandchildren who brought her great joy in her later years Alexandra, Ryder, Walt and Maddy Andrews, all of Birmingham and her ever-faithful dog Daisy. Other survivors include her three sisters Michele Higgs (Zach) of Huntsville, Lynn Pratt of Atlanta, and Debby McCullough (Mac) of Mountain Brook, a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law George Andrews (Kathy), Susan Livolsi (Jack), and Sally Sharp (Allen) and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews who she loved and was loved by. She is predeceased by her parents Helene DeBlanc Crow and James Sylvester Crow.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at Mountain Brook Baptist Church on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 3:00pm with visitation after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org.
