Daniel Arthur Melton was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on July 16, 1946. He was the youngest of three sons, brothers Jesse and Chester. Daniel, affectionately called Danny, confessed Christ at an early age under the pastorship of the Reverand John Goodgame. Danny grew up attending Sixth Avenue Baptist Church and was an usher and member of the male chorus. His educational opportunities were attained in the Birmingham city school system, in which he graduated from Ullman High and furthered his education at Lawson State, Miles College, and UAB.
Danny’s active participation in the Civil Rights Movement has escaped history, but he participated in sit-ins, marches, and demonstrations, whereby he was arrested in 1963. Danny joined and served with the 1st Calvary Division in the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards during his years of service in the Army for courage and bravery: The Air Metal, Airborne Wings, and the C/B with a star.
Danny was employed with the postal service for forty faithful years. Danny was successful in his endeavors, which included some real estate properties, but he was not happy until he rekindled his love with his high school sweetheart, Alfreida Franklin, who had been in New York for over 25 years. Danny married Alfrieda on August 13, 1994, in Birmingham, Alabama, where they lived happily together.
