Dan Thomas Raley

Dan Thomas "Paw Paw" Raley, age 91, loving husband and father passed away on September 25, 2021 in Birmingham, AL. Born on March 18, 1930 in Vincent, AL., Dan was one of six children to James and Ivie Raley. He graduated from Vincent High School and joined the Army where he served in the Specialists Training Regiment 5th Infantry Division in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Dan spent his entire career at Sears Roebuck where he also met his wife (Mae) of 61 years.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife; Mary Raley, his parents; James Thomas and Ivie Raley, sisters; Matilene Holcombe, Nadine Southern and brother; Raymond Raley. He is survived by his sisters; Sarah Weldon and Christine Dorminey, sons; Lance Raley and Jim Raley (Terri), grandchildren; Meredith Binkley (Ryan), Drew Raley (Claire), Tyler Raley, great-grandchildren; Tucker, Conner and Gaines as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to his friends and staff at Galleria Woods for his excellent care. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the charity of your choice.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 11:00am at Elmwood Cemetery located at 600 Martin Luther King Dr. Birmingham, AL. 35211 with military honors. There will not be a public visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends are asked to meet at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, AL. to process to the cemetery by 10:45am. John Ridout's Elmwood Chapel directing.
