Constantine Nicholas (Tykie) Sfakianos, 78, of Destin, Florida fell asleep in the Lord July 20, 2021. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 25, 1942 to parents, Bessie Maverkos Sfakianos and Nicholas Constantine Sfakianos, who both preceded him in death. He was the oldest of his three siblings, Peter Nicholas Sfakianos, who preceded in him death, James Nicholas Sfakianos of Destin and Tina Mari Sfakianos of Birmingham.
Tykie grew up in Ensley, Alabama and attended Ensley High School and Auburn University. He became a lifelong supporter of Auburn and Alabama athletics while remaining a fervent Auburn fan. He served 7 years in the US Army Reserves as a Master Chef. Food and cooking remained a cornerstone of how he expressed his love to those closest to him.
Tykie lived his deep faith in God by example to all those he touched. He engaged life and people with positive energy and was an inspiration to those who knew him. His sense of humor and smile were his trademark.
A gregarious personality, Tykie guided, mentored and encouraged those around him whether in business or personal relationships. His kindness and generosity drew people to him. He was a prolific entrepreneur who created over 30 successful business ventures while continuing to pursue his passion for the game of golf.
Tykie is survived by his loving wife, Johnnie Byers Sfakianos, his children, Nicholas Constantine Sfakianos and Angela Sfakianos Finch (Hunter) and their mother, Cynthia Deason Sfakianos, his grandchildren, Michelle Christine Sfakianos, Nicholas Jordan Carra, Wells Hunter Finch, Anne Lawson Finch, Holland Sellers Finch and Fletcher Nicholas Finch. He was preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth MacIntosh Garvey, his daughter in law, Julie White Sfakianos and his grandson Lawson Hunter Finch.
Tykie is also survived by many extended family including his three godchildren, Dr. Jeffrey Nicholas Sfakianos, Victoria Elizabeth Jones, and Peter Charles Constantine Sfakianos.
Visitation for Tykie will be held at Johns-Ridout’s Mortuary - Elmwood Chapel on Friday, July 23 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM located at 800 Denison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211. Funeral service will be on Saturday, July 24 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral located at 307 19TH Street South, Birmingham, AL 35233. There will be a memorial service in Destin at a later date.
