Concetta Bruno Lawson was born in Bessemer, Alabama on October 6,1930 to Rosa and Peter Contorno. Concetta was Baptized, went to School, and Married Sam P Bruno at Saint Aloysius Catholic Church.They were blessed with four Daughters and four Sons-in-law. Theresa and Joe Lanzi, Rose and Larry Watts. Cetta and Mark Dyer, Sandra and Fred Brock.Ten Grandchildren: Joe Lanzi III, Laura Ledbetter; Angela Elward (Chris), David Watts (Amber), Jason Watts (Dana); John Dyer (Kimberly), Julie Levine (Scott); Greg Brock (Whitney), Katie Brock, Bryan Brock ( Meredith). Fourteen Great Grandchildren: Lanz Ledbetter; Kaylie, Alana, and Tessa Elward; Sam, Walter, Emily, and Harvey Watts; Lauren and Tyler Watts; Brodie and Emma Brock; Nathan and Charlotte Brock.
Concetta was the last of her five siblings to pass away: Veto Contorno, Vincent Contorno ( Marion), Lena Riddle (Bill), Joe Contorno (Jean), Anthony Contorno (Nellie Jean) Concetta enjoyed her life and family!
She enjoyed sewing costumes for her girls dance recitals and made beautiful Easter dresses. Concetta bowled for many years on a Ladies bowling league with her best friend and cousin, Virginia Contorno. She enjoyed going to the Church Bingo’s. Concetta really liked playing cards. All card games. She would play Poker, every two weeks with friends. Concetta liked to watch TV…especially Westerns, Cheyenne and John Wayne, were her favorites. There were many family Florida Beach trips, and Sunday picnics at EastLake Park. Concetta and Sam enjoyed going to football games. Concetta’s First Airplane trip was to Miami, to see Joe Namath play in the Super Bowl. Concetta and Sam were happily married for 31 years.
After Sam’s passing, for the next ten years, Concetta enjoyed motor home travel, seeing the beauty of America with her brothers, Joe and Anthony Contorno, their family and friends. God blessed Concetta, for the next nineteen years with love and a happy marriage to Arthur Lawson. Also giving her another beautiful family to love…Mack and Mary Lawson,Bobbie Nichols, Joyce Baker and Jerry and Lynn Lawson.Concetta and Art’s Children, Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren enjoyed Summer fun, fishing and boating at their home, on Weiss Lake, Centre, Al.
In later years, Concetta returned to her home in Riverchase. Here she enjoyed the visits from Mack, Mary, their daughter Cindy and Grandson Cody..playing many games of Golf. In her youthful Eighties, Concetta’s best friend and cousins, Paul and Virginia Contorno, introduced her to their friend Anthony Zito. It was friendship, companionship and love for them. They liked playing Briscola, an Italian card game, watching movies and lunch out with friends or with family. Anthony and Concetta had the same HAPPY personality. Everyone knew them as a fun couple.
Concetta was surrounded with love all her life and greatly appreciated the love and help of many friends and relatives; Sister Madeline Contorno OSB, Rosanna Contorno, Mary Bruno, Kevin and Barbara Smith, Judy and Norman Antonio, Bernadine and Jack Chiarello, Theresa Russo, Kay Reed, Jimmy and Cheryl Riddle, Kealyn Swanson, Michael Contorno, Kenny Helmke, Father Paul Asih, and Craig J. Rich, M.D.
Concetta shared her happiness, smiles and love with all she was around. She was a role model for her daughters in every phase of her life. She showed them Faith in God, her Love for God, and Trust in God.
Concetta Bruno Lawson, at the age of 93 years, passed away October 26, 2023.

A visitation for Concetta will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 5514 Double Oak Lane, Birmingham, AL 35242, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
