Clara Nelson of Trussville passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019, at the age of 93. She was born in Fletcher, OH and moved to AL in 1955.
She later retired after 29 years of service with Trussville Utilities as office manager. Mrs. Nelson was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Trussville. Her passion was her love for ceramics. She took ceramic classes and eventually taught her craft at the church where she and a friend started a ceramics class over 30 years ago. This class continues today. Mrs. Nelson and her husband, Chuck, started the first minor league baseball teams in Trussville for all the boys that didn’t make a Little League Team. She was the first lady to coach a baseball team, and she routinely beat her husband’s team.
Clara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Chuck. She was adored and loved by her two sons, Charles E. Nelson, Jr. (Celeste) of Memphis, TN and Ted R. Nelson of Trussville; five granddaughters, Kim Ross (Ralph), Shari Nelson, Kari Case (Dave), Cissie Harrington (Forrest) and Jeni Linkous (Jamie); two grandsons, Ross Nelson (Alyssa) and Michael Smith; 14 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are requested to be made to the Trussville First United Methodist Church ceramics class.
