Christine Holcomb Whitley, 88, of Blountsville, AL (formerly of Center Point, AL) passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2018. She was born to the late Wyman and Susan Holcomb in Marion County, AL on October 29, 1929. Christine was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in passing by her husband of 55 years, Bill Whitley; her siblings, Garland Holcomb, Robert Holcomb, and June McDill; and her grandson, Jackson Whitley. She is survived by her children, John Whitley (Jo), Mark Whitley, Alice Reynolds, and Amy Whitley; her sister, Lou Kidder; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way; and a wealth of extended family and friends.
Christine was a mother first and foremost. Her greatest passion in life was her family. Christine was also a well-educated teacher and taught at the elementary level for many years in public schools of Alabama. After her last daughter was born, Christine taught Kindergarten through the church. She was a gifted teacher with a heart for children. Christine was also very involved in her home church, First Baptist of Center Point. She adored her husband Bill and shared many wonderful memories with him until his passing in 2012. Christine had a love for nature, and she was keenly aware of the seasons. She loved birds, butterflies, and had a special love for cardinals. She would always tell her children that cardinals were angels visiting earth, and they took comfort in seeing these angels even the day she passed. Christine will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, and by those she impacted with her life.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 30 from 10 -11 am at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, AL.
