Charles Joseph Kelley, Jr, 89, of Dadeville, AL entered upon an eternal sabbath of rest Saturday August 21, 2021. He was born November 4, 1931 in Birmingham, AL. He is preceded in death by his mother Theresa Friend Kelley and father Charles Joseph Kelley, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 31 years, Barbara Josephine Kelley; brother John Kelley; sister Carol Jean Kent; sons Chuck Kelley, David Kelley, Danny Kelley (Ladye), Patrick Kelley, Chris Kelley and Ryan Kelley; daughters Kathleen Kelley (Vaughn) and Patty Kelley Lamon (Ron); step-children Chris Carney, Lisa Lawrence (Bud) and Michelle Barron (John); twenty two grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Charles graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1950. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He is an alumnus of the class of 1958 from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) where he earned a Bachelor of Aeronautical Administration. He was an avid fan of all things Auburn and his enthusiasm for the Auburn Tigers gave him great joy in life. Throughout his career in business, Charles enjoyed varying leadership roles and giving back to the community. He served as President of the Jr Chamber of Commerce in Birmingham, was recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America, and was named Citizen of The Year of Dadeville, AL. He served as President of the Dadeville Kiwanis International where as co-coordinator he lead the development of the Creation Plantation park for the children of Dadeville, AL. Charles shared joy and laughter with all who knew him. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Those who loved him will carry forward the best of who he was. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service for Charles following at graveside with burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
