Cecil David Thomas of Trussville passed way peacefully at home on Friday evening, December 8, 2017 at age of 85. He was the youngest son of the late Harris A. Thomas and Bessie McCrory Thomas of Rosehill community of Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Donald Thomas of Leeds and Mack Thomas of Bessemer.
Cecil was a graduate of Leeds High School Class of 1950 and a former Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy Reserve. He worked for Transcon Lines in Birmingham for over thirty years and retired from Ober Gatlinburg in Gatlinburg, Tennessee where he worked for 13 years. He was a former member of Central Park Baptist Church and volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts. Cecil loved to travel, as well as spending time at the family's second-home in the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee were he loved to hike and camp.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Margaret McGaughy Thomas and his son David Lee Thomas of Trussville, Alabama. Also, survived by sister-in-law Carolyn McGaughy Beasley (Jimmy T. Beasley) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two nieces, Melanie Thomas Dixon (Randy) of Greensboro, Georgia and Alison Beasley Siegel (Scott) of Signal Mountain, Tennessee.
Family will receive friends Tuesday Dec.12, 2017 from 11:45 - 1:00 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Graveside service will follow at Valhalla Cemetery, 839 Wilkes Road, Birmingham at 1:30 PM.
