Calvin Carter, 85 of Clay (Trussville), Alabama, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving wife, Yvonne, and many other family members. He was also most lovingly known to family & many family friends as “Grandaddy”.
Visitation will be Monday, March 15, 2021, 5pm until 8pm at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 16, 2021, 2pm at the funeral home with burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235.
Calvin Carter was born to Clurtis and Effie Johnson Carter on July 27, 1935, in his family home in Hamilton, Alabama. He was number seven of their eleven children.
Calvin was a past Deacon, Assistant Treasurer and head of the Building & Grounds Committee at First Baptist Church of Roebuck Plaza. He was also a past member of the Lion’s Club and Home Builder’s Association.
He grew up on a 181-acre farm in Hamilton where his parents and siblings worked in the fields, helped in his Dad’s black smith shop, logged trees, worked in a cotton gin and moved houses for a living when he was young.
He moved to Birmingham when he was 17 years old and became a Carpenter. He worked for many home builders through the years, Leo Russo and Bill Harris among the last ones. He believed in doing good quality work on the houses he built & maintained this reputation his entire life & he was friends with all the builders.
He was preceded in death by his infant son Jimmy Lynn Carter, parents Clurtis and Effie Johnson Carter, father-in-law and mother-in-law Listeen & Betty Moon, brother-in-law Joe “KO” Moon, son-in-law James “Jimbo” Cox, infant sister Evaline Carter, Eugene “Gene” & wife Barbara Carter, Loysine “Lois” & husband John (Rufus) Feltman, Otis “Bud” Carter, Floyce “Buster” & wife Frances Carter, Clurtis “Junior” & wife Jewel Carter, husband of sister Evelyn, Ottis Green, & wife of brother Elvis, Ethelene Carter.
Surviving wife: Yvonne Moon Carter & they were blessed to have been able to celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary on February 15, 2021.

Bekah (Vic) Hall with Nikole “Niki” (Chase) Henley with Presleigh & Rowan Henley; Patrick Murdock with Lilah & her mother Tori Murdock; Nathaniel “Nathan” (Kimbrelly “Kim”) Murdock with Clara Murdock; Vic’s four children, spouses & eight grandchildren that unfortunately were not able to meet Calvin before he passed.

Calvin is also survived by a multitude of nieces & nephews that he loved very much as well as friends from the construction & building communities, neighbors & fishing buddies from the Roebuck Plaza & Clay communities.
