Perlman, Benjamin N, 82, of Birmingham passed peacefully at his home on August 4, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernice, around whom his world spun; sons and daughters, Gary, Steven, Brian, Karen, Max, Lauren and Marc; and grandchildren, Seth, Alex, Jamie, Anna and Olivia, who indeed made his world complete.
Ben was a founding partner, along with beloved friend Joe Leitman, of Leitman-Perlman, Inc., a successful real estate brokerage and management company. He was also a Korean war veteran, avid golfer, proud Florida Gator alumnus and former football player, and all-around amazing man. He was a man of high integrity, and lived by the Golden Rule, treating everyone with lovingkindness, dignity and respect. His involvement and leadership in Jewish and general community causes will be truly missed.
Ben was born and raised in Pensacola, FL, where he worked in the family Dairy, captained his high school football team, shared love and laughs with his family, and body surfed every day in the Gulf of Mexico. He was one-of-a-kind, beloved by all.
The family expresses its deepest gratitude to Viola Smith, Peaches Smith, Jasmine Smith, Brittney Smith, Dianne Myricks, Corliss Dandridge and Felicia Watts each of whom contributed to making his final years full of dignity and honor.
The funeral service will be held at Temple Emanu-El, 2100 Highland Avenue on Monday August 6, 2012 at 2:00pm followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Collat Jewish Family Services or Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama.
