RUFFINO, ANTHONY "TONY" Of Hoover, passed away Aug. 22, 2011, after suffering a stroke the day before. Tony began his concert promotion career in Alabama with a performance by Jimi Hendrix at the Memorial Coliseum in Tuscaloosa in May of 1969. He and his family moved from New York to Birmingham, Alabama in 1977. During a career that spanned over 30 years, Tony promoted artists in venues throughout the State of Alabama and Southeast including The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Widespread Panic, Hank Williams, Jr., U2, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Police, The Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffet and the Eagles, to name a few. Tony was preceded in death by his son, Nicky Ruffino; his father, Nicholas Anthony Ruffino; his mother, Lena Ruffino; and his sister, Mindy Mei. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris Ruffino; his brothers, Richard Ruffine (Joan), Donnie Rosen, David Rosen; four children, Kathi Lee, Terri Houser, Tina Godwin (Kyle), and John Ruffino (Lindsey); and eleven grandchildren, Nick, Aaron, Casie, Alexis, Amber, Corey, Sims, Max, Jackson, Abby and Mollie. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to one of the following organizations: The Alabama Diabetes Association, The Alabama Heart Association, The Birmingham Humane Society or St Jude's Children's Hospital. A Memorial Celebration for Tony will be held Wed., August 24, 2001, at 4 p.m. at the Alabama Theatre. Doors open at 3 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
