Ann Gilardoni Maxwell, age 88, passed away on September 9, 2020. Ann was born to Lewis T. Gilardoni, Sr. and Celestine Fulghum Gilardoni on March 27, 1932. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lewis T. Gilardoni, Jr.; and her husband, John Edward Maxwell, Jr. Ann is survived by her daughter, Sharon Maxwell; son, Mark Maxwell (Brenda); and her grandchildren, Christina Maxwell Clancy (Keith), and Mason Maxwell.
Ann was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament grammar school and West End High school. After her high school graduation, Ann moved to Washington D C. where she took a job at the Pentagon. Upon returning to Birmingham she married John "Jack" Maxwell, Jr. at Blessed Sacrament church where they were members for many years. They later became members of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic church. They were life-long members of Woodward Golf and Country club. Ann was an avid card player, especially bridge. She loved crocheting, golfing, playing board games and dominoes, completing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren. She retired from the Alabama Power Co. at age 79. Ann was everybody's best friend. She always put others first and was her family's "rock of Gibraltar".
The family will receive friends at a visitation at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic church on Monday, September 14, 2020 from 9-10 AM, with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation, 6925 Oakland Mills Road, #701, Columbia, Maryland 21045.
