Alice was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 11, 1930 and passed away on December 30, 2021 at Kirkwood by the River, her home for the last seven years. She is survived by her daughter, Jamie Odrezin (Greg), her son Donny Hewell (Carolyn), her stepdaughter Audrey Gray (Collin), nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by the love of her life, Bill Brooks, and sons Doug Hewell and Keith Hewell.
Alice married her high school sweetheart but was divorced after 20 years. She went back to school later in life and graduated from Oglethorpe University with a degree in Social Work, and it was through that work that she met her soulmate, Bill Brooks. After marrying, they made their home in the mountains of North Georgia, built a log cabin, owned an antique store, and traveled widely. Alice voraciously spent her free time immersed in scrapbooking, cross stitching, and gardening. In 2014, she and Bill moved to Kirkwood by the River in Birmingham, Alabama, and she resided in that community with a wealth of new friends until her death.
Her family is grateful for her life. As a Hebrew proverb states, “Say not, in grief, she is no more… but, in thankfulness, that she was”.
