Albert Oscar Fraser, of Sylvan Springs, AL passed away on Labor Day, September 5, 2022. At the age of 98, under hospice care, he died peacefully in repose at his home as he had wished. Preceding him in death were his first love and wife, Marie Singleton Fraser; beloved second wife, Betty Fikes; son, Pat Fraser; and sister, Helen Yager. His survivors include brother, Christopher P. Fraser, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Rose Fraser; nephew, Jerry (Pat) Yager; three grandchildren, Gina (Scott) Williams, Denise Fraser, Eve (Wade) Hulsey; and five great-grandchildren, Brady, Patrick, Isaac, Ollie, and Isabella.
Born in Illinois in 1924, life was difficult as Al had to leave school after only the third grade to help on the family farmstead. But his education was, in fact, life-long. After serving in the Navy during World War II, and returning home to meet his three-year-old son, he learned the machinist craftsman’s trade and was employed at U.S. Steel. Even in retirement he continued his education by learning the art of film photography and becoming a self-employed professional photographer for weddings and the little league ball teams of Springville, AL. And after his second retirement, he filled his personal library with books to enjoy learning about American history and theology. He will be missed by many whether they called him Mr. Fraser, Al, Uncle Al, or Grandaddy.
A visitation will be on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 10 am at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel; followed by a celebration of life at 11 am.
