John (Jean-Baptiste) Norman Dionne, 90, passed away on Sunday February 15, 2014 at home in Hillcrest, NY. Mr. Dionne was born on February 13, 1924 in Norwalk, MA, the youngest of five. He was formatively educated in the Boston area, and served in the Navy during WWII. Following the war, Mr. Dionne worked at Pitney-Bowes and General Electric in the greater Boston area. He then earned a degree in engineering from Northeastern University and worked at Link Flight Simulation on various NASA and aerospace related projects before retiring in 1991 after 35 years of dedicated service. Mr. Dionne was an active member of St. Catherine's / St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Hillcrest NY, and the Knights of Columbus. He also contributed his time and talents with Boy Scout Troop #199, Fenton Free Library and served as a tax preparer at the Office of the Aging. Mr. Dionne was married to Agnes (Burke) Dionne on June 12, 1948 until her death in December 2004. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Odile Dionne; two brothers, Edward and Eugene Dionne; and one grandson, Matthew Pierce Dionne. Mr. Dionne is survived by five children and spouses, Stephen and Sue Dionne, Slingerlands; Robert and Carol Dionne, Edmond OK; Gregory and Suzie Dionne, Cary IL; Andrea and Rick Knox, Haines City FL; Peter and Shelley Dionne, Binghamton; six grandchildren, Natalie Keppel, Bethany Stimely (KC Wilder), Timothy and Alice (Van Valin) Dionne, Amanda Dionne (Jeremy Urquhart), Alyse Dionne, Luke Dionne); and two great-grandchildren, Gennaro Keppel, Matthew Robert Dionne; two devoted older sisters, Janet Webster and Leona Curran; loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to exceptional friends and neighbors, Virginia Hope, Pam Klesse, and Rose Serafini, and gratefully acknowledges the compassionate care provided by Carole Grummons, along with Rebecca, Debbi and Tommi. He was a gentle soul and was dearly loved. Friends may call at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson on Wednesday February 19 from 4PM to 7PM. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday February 20 at 10AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1031 Chenango St. with cemetery memorial service at the Vestal Hills Memorial Park Chapel following.
