Horace Thomas Julian, 92, of Chenango Bridge, NY peacefully passed away at Willow Point Nursing Home on June 22, 2018 after a long illness. He was born in Orange, NJ and moved to Hornell, NY as a child and remained there until 1963 when he relocated with his family to the Binghamton area. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Jennie Julian and brother Nicholas Julian (Rose). He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jean Hasby Julian and his two sons James Julian (Diane) of Endicott and Joseph Julian (Jill) of Binghamton as well as his grandchildren Lauri Diamantakos (Pete) of Endwell, Gina Maduskuie (Brian) of Hockessin, DE, Jenna Julian (fiance Terence Stricks) of Yonkers, NY and Mia Julian (fiance Jake Ohanesian) of East Boston, MA and his great grandchildren Demetri, Lukas, Stella Diamantakos, Julian, Natalie Maduskuie and Santino Stricks Horace is also survived by his brother, James Julian (Lucy) of Tonawanda, NY. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jarl Hasby (Ann) of Old Forge, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. Horace was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Hillcrest and its 50 Year Plus Club. He was also a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army 90th Infantry Division known as the “Tough Ombres” during the Battle of the Bulge. Post war he served in the 1st Infantry Division stationed in Nuremberg, Germany during the war trials. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, 3 Battle Stars and a Bronze Star. Horace graduated from Hornell High School and Broome Community College. He retired from NYSEG after 40 years of service and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of the Hornell Lodge of Elks, Binghamton VFW Post #478, 90th Division Association and its 500 Club. He served as assistant scout master for Hornell Boy Scout Troop #106 for many years. He enjoyed his family, watching NY Giants football and listening to big band and Dixieland music. In his earlier years, Horace played drums with several small dance bands in the Hornell area. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at 2nd Floor South at Willow Point for his care during his illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Frank Eder and Dr. Richard Baron. The family will receive friends at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church on Thursday June 28 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am, Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Horace’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
