Dan was predeceased by his parents, Willis and Julia, as well as one brother, Charles Minch. He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-three years, Nancy, his son Daniel, Jr., daughter-in-law Caroline, and grandson Elias Joseph of Graz, Austria.
Dan is also survived by his siblings, Mary Ann Rogan (Owen), Paul Minch (Mary Jo), Bernard Minch (Bonnie), as well as his sister-in-law, Gail Minch and brother-in-law, Ralph Shelgren. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Elmira, NY, Dan graduated from Elmira Notre Dame High School. He went on to earn degrees from Corning CC, SUNY Brockport, and Elmira College. His first job after college was teaching and coaching at his beloved Notre Dame. He then became an Assistant Athletic Director at Elmira College before moving on to work at NJ City University. Dan finally returned to the Southern Tier to take up the position of Athletic Director at SUNY Broome. He retired from Broome in 2011 after twenty rich and fulfilling years of service.
During his career, Dan held many offices and chaired numerous committees for the NJCAA. He was named NACDA Athletic Director of the Year in 2005. He spent over forty-five years as a forceful advocate for student athletes. His energy, ethics, and standards were beyond reproach.
Faith, family, and golf were all central aspects of Dan’s life. He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Hillcrest for thirty years, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, as a member of the Knights of Columbus, and as a volunteer for many community initiatives. In his many roles, including husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, Dan was an example of extraordinary strength of both character and will for others. He radiated a kind of grace to his loved ones and his community that continues to have an impact on all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1049 Chenango Street, Binghamton on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 9-10am. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
