Veronica “Ronnie” E. Newman, age 81 of Beverly Hills, Florida passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in the loving care of her family and Cornerstone Hospice in Leesburg. She was born on Sunday, January 8, 1933 to Joseph and Hermina Spanik in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY. She moved here in 1985 from Freeport, Long Island, NY. Ronnie was of the Catholic faith and a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary (Chaplin) and the VFW Auxiliary. Ronnie loved to play bingo and called bingo at both the VFW and the Knights of Columbus. Much of Ronnie’s time was spent helping others, visiting nursing homes or spending time with those that were alone or in need of a kind and caring heart. She will be a great loss to our community.
She was preceded in death by her lifelong friend and provider, Sidney Newman and sister, Marian.
She leaves behind sons, Alan Pittides and wife Loretta of Oceanside, NY and Louis Newman and wife Joanne of Leesburg, FL; daughters, Joanne Pittides of Levittown, NY and Helen Ralph and husband Charlie of Farmingdale, NY; her best friend of 20 years, Diane Abbinante of Beverly Hills, FL; brothers, Joseph Spanik of Bethel, CT and Edward Spanik and wife Sue of Holbrook, NY; sisters, Eleanor Locicero and husband Frank of Alpine, CA and Lillian Balzano of Oceanside, NY; ten grandchildren, Timothy, Michael and Sean all of Oceanside, NY, Kimberly & Jennifer both of Farmingdale, NY, James, Jeremy, Hannah, Kathryn and Rachel all of Leesburg, FL and two great grandchildren, Katelyn & Gianna.
Visitation, Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM with Chapel Service at 3:30 PM at Fero Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fero Memorial Gardens.
