He was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan on February 14th, 1961, to Nancy (nee Casey) and Peter A. Goebel Sr.
Peter graduated from University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy class of 1979.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served an overseas tour in England where he worked on electronic systems in aircraft. Peter continued to work in the electronics/ computing field for most of his life. He was hardworking and always sought to learn as much as there was to know about technology.
He was married to Theresa McGuire and together they had a daughter, Dorothy (DJ) Goebel, born on November 15th, 1994. He would tell anyone who asked that having his daughter was his greatest accomplishment.
Pete lived in Michigan and Maryland for most of his life but was living in Florida so that he could be near his mother, Nancy, when he passed.
Pete had a passion for music and films. He was notorious for making personalized mixtapes of music for his friends and family as a way to show his love, and share his “latest musical finds”, too. His taste in music was varied and diverse and he was a major league music fan, just like his father. He attended many concerts and events, all over the world, during his travels, military service and in the various places he lived. He shared much great music with his younger brothers, Johnny and Erich, over the years, and helped inspire their own love of all kinds of different musical styles.
His sense of humor would brighten anyone’s day!
He was a smart and witty man, and very social as well, the life of many a party with friends and family through the years. Pete easily made conversation and rapport with anyone he met.
He was conscientious, and considered others plights with both empathy and sympathy. Having overcome obstacles of his own in life, he was always ready and willing to help others. He inspired them to find the help they needed and was a great sponsor to those who asked.
In February 2023 he celebrated 20 years of sobriety, an incredible milestone that all his family and friends were proud to celebrate with him.
Peter was predeceased by his father Peter A. Goebel Sr. He was survived by his mother, Nancy Cardinell, brothers, John and Erich Goebel, daughter, Dorothy Goebel, and step-daughter, Stephanie Safchuck.
The family is planning to hold celebrations of life in Baltimore, Maryland, and Detroit, Michigan.
